Women in Business: You're a Threat, Own It! - September 1, 2020
Dr. Tanya Menon shared her research on how selective incivility indicates that people feel particularly empowered to direct disrespect towards women, minorities, and particularly female minorities. Over the years, the women she's worked with (junior/ senior, diverse ethnicities) have shared with her their experiences with these situations and their responses. She describes her own research in this area, and some recommendations to stand your ground in these situations.
Dr. Tanya Menon teaches in the Executive MBA program and serves the college as professor of management and human resources. Dr. Menon studies how people think about relationships, and how this affects the way they make decisions, collaborate, and lead at work. Her research has been cited in various media outlets including NPR, the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Times of London (UK), and the Guardian (UK). She has won multiple teaching awards (at both Ohio State and as Associate Professor at the University of Chicago).
